Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g. have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • Successful candidates will be required to possess or obtain US Government Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) security clearance, as this is an essential requirement for this role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with any of the following: conducting criminal investigations, advising companies on compliance with cybersecurity laws and regulations, the legal mechanisms governing voluntary disclosure and the compelled disclosure of user data by service providers, or advising companies on referrals of criminal matters to law enforcement.
  • Experience with public speaking, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround, and to build effective relationships across relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to work on a broad range of legal matters.
  • Ability to travel.

Description

As Corporate Counsel at Google, you work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. You're part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on challenge you to think big and differently. You are collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

In this role, you will provide legal counsel on the diverse range of issues affecting the security of keeping Google, its employees, and its users safe as part of Google’s Security Legal team. You will work closely with attorneys, investigators, and engineers to keep Google safe and compliant with worldwide cybersecurity regulations. Moreover, at times, you will be involved in communications with government agencies regarding relevant issues. You will work closely with lawyers involved in cybersecurity, child safety and data disclosure laws, and other members of the internal security, engineering, product and policy teams. You'll use Google’s cutting edge technology to improve security and safety.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $195,000-$293,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel to Google teams to help ensure compliance with global security-related regulations and counsel Google teams involved in mitigating cybersecurity threats.
  • Oversee the referral process to law enforcement agencies of criminal abuse against Google products and platforms, and work closely with teams across Google on these efforts.
  • Counsel security teams handling these threats on topics such as information security, law enforcement communications, investigations, detection and mitigation techniques.
  • Communicate with government agencies concerning law enforcement and national security agencies about policy initiatives related to online safety and security.
  • Work on relevant Google tools, programs and privacy initiatives.
